my pond has two 500 watt underwater lights......i put them each on a dimmer switch so i can bring them up slow so as not to startle the koi.....the pond looks awesome at night with the lights on and i am glad i put them in....at least now....i suppose if they became a problem for some reason my opinion might change.....i put the lights in on the front wall so from the normal viewing side they don't glare at you....i tried feeding the fish once with the lights on and that didn't work out...with the light coming from the side they couldn't see the food on the top......one last note...they don't protrude into the pond at all....
