This sounds very lacking to me. Normally what we like to do is run the bottom drain to a large settlement chamber. This gives the heavier than water solids a place where they have time to settle out. From the settlement chamber then gravity flow to the bio filter. There ate several possibility's for this, my 1st choice is a moving bed filter. Then your pump, then to TPRs.
I would run a skimmer to a 2nd pump, then to some kind of mech/fines filter, then to your shower.
