Ice it down or ice it up?

Back to that theory of crushed by ice. If this were true the world would be a much different place then we know it now. The only reason fish can live in lakes in cold areas is due to one factor...ice floats. One liter of water weighs 9% lighter then one liter of the same liquid (fresh water) frozen. Water is at its densest state at 40 degrees F or 4 degrees C.

Now if you were to freeze a fish in bucket of water, I could see the extra 9% expansion factor could crush the fish.
