Bob, the very best Ai-goromos are bred asagi male back to female Ai-goromo. I know when
looking at parents this is what you want to see...but the vast majority don't get over to Japan to see the parents so......

Look for a kohaku pattern on a tosai that shows just the blueish color in the sashi area of the leading Hi step. You do not want any blue reticulation showing anywhere on the beni. it's first year. When looking at nisei keep in mind this "rule of thumb"....the longer it takes to show any reticulation the longer it stays nice when it finally finishes.

I think I'd be talking to dealers you know and trust that travel to japan several times a year and have them look for you. They can email back a photo and put the koi on hold for 24 hrs
till you decide.

Sumi and Budo seem to be the most prevalent types of Goromo, so be patient in your search.
