Well, this too shall pass. But those very much on the outside of our hobby will squeak the loudest and try and inflict the most damage possible.
You know, people do not realize how traumatic and devastating the early presence of 'simple' aeromonas was, once upon a time. The first waves of aeromonas infections were thought to be something that was coming from Japan- some strange and deadly form of bacteria or virus. Because the US hobby was relatively young, and treatments other than water additives were unheard of, aeromonas often claimed 60- 90 percent of pond residents in one episode. No one understood the dynamics of parasites spreading aeromonas or being vectors for aeromonas under the right/wrong circumstances. And because there were no antibiotic injectables and the idea of treating the infection directly was a foreign concept, once you had it in your pond, the few fish that didn't die would be horribly disfigured. At one point, AKCA was considering recommending that all koi shows be postponed until there could be studies and 'cures' found for this ( and I quote) " highly contagious disease".
Fortunately we had no internet! So we just set about making things right and pointed fingers at no one- it was a disease and it was approached as such.
So we have HAH stirring the pot and a few others jumping on this to beat others over the head with. When I say certain individuals are bad for our hobby I think you can see what I'm saying in just this one mini- drama. There are three individuals and a few hens that have ceased on this for personal self aggrandizement and will use this for that personal agenda. It's so obvious it would be laughable if it didn't harm so many decent folks and send the mindless sheep down yet another path of confusion. JR
