When she hit about 9" and I could start to see some sumi just below the surface, my interest piqued and I took a few photos. I'll get some current shots and post the series. She's now about 10"-11" and like I said... sumi popping up all over the place! Very exciting. Omosako really liked her skin, and said she has quite a bit of potential. I'll attach a picture from a month ago when the sumi first started showing itself.
Hey, when the sumi was coming up, did it come up as shading first, or little specks of greyish sumi that bled out on top of the shiroji before forming larger sumi patches/stripes? You'll see by the pics, the sumi started out bluish grey below the skin and now it's just popping up everywhere. Tail fins, pec fins, face etc...
What did Mr. Omosako have to say about the development of yours? Any predictions on finish, or if this type of skin is better or worse than others.... He said the skin was very soft looking. Bright white, but very soft. Good quality he said.
I would be interested in knowing if this skin and sumi presentation is either typical to Musashi or Panda. We can't really know which one the fish in our growout came from, if either (they came from these two, plus one experimental breeding, I do believe), but this might be some kind of indicator. No idea of the breeder.
More! I wanna know more! |

Interesting picture I'll post as well. Chris Charbonneau has a beautiful shiro from Omosako that she's had since tosia. She brought along a photo of her when she was young, and she had a TON of sumi. Now a solid size 6 she's bright bright white, fantastic comfirmation, and a couple little spots of sumi is all that's there. Apparently shes been this way for a long time. Well, at the recent show they awarded this fish the tategoi award! I was beside Chris when she asked Mr. Omosako about what happened to the sumi and he told her that if it was there when she was young, it will return. Patience.
Anyway, I'll get those photos of my SU and put them up soon. I'll try and take better close ups of her skin with good lighting to give you an idea. I did pay quite a bit more than the growout price, but that may just mean I paid too much!
