Firstly my sympathy to all the japanese families that have lost loved ones in the quake, their homes and other family members that have been hurt in this ordeal. Secondly I hope that many breeders in Niigata are able to pull through, though the loss of ponds parent stocks and top quality kois will surely set the industry back. Now here is some good news for Aussie hobbyist anyway, there is hope for us to grow truly jumbo kois (japanese jumbo). On the 8th of Oct a sanke was placed into the tewa koi pond it measured 21cm (when pinned against the container). 2.5 weeks later it had grown 3cm to 24cm and put on a lot of girth.
