jeez thats pricey to run your pond. ever thought to try atleast make a self cleaning one if not buy one?
i mean one of those self cleaning rotating drum filters. i think i even saw a prototype of one on the internet a year ago but christ you could run one of them for that much dollars.
if you have to go away, as most do or would like to and not be a slave to the system, go automated but have it so if it stops- not everything dies.
i dont know how those vortex things work youve got, but basically i reckon if you set it up to drain it and then shoot water from inside the screen and outwards all the crap goes to the bottom and flushes out. then you fill it back up automatically as well.
wish i could draw what i mean.
you have a vortex with a sloping bottom, in the middle of that is a screen that fliters to about 200 micron. it feeds from withing that to your next one.
a timer controlls a gate that opens the water out to the drain, i assume you use an exchange of around that much. after the water is out you have a high pressure water pump to blast the screen clean and the crap falls out and washes out.
your drain locks off and your tank fills up with water again.
