I had understood that our club's tradition was indeed that the Reserve Grand Champion automatically became our Koi of the Year. As such, it woud have to owned by a club member.
THAT is NOT the case!!! I misunderstood and reported things incorrectly!!!
As with many clubs, our AKCA Koi of the Year will simply be the highest ranking fish at the show owned by a club member. The AKCA rules exclude the Grand Champion because tthat goes into the AKCA Champion of Champions contest.
I am very sorry for this. The registration form is being amended. Any forms already submitted with have that rule scratched out and not enforced.
