From Koi Bito Issue #9. The article Kohaku from a Jumbo Benigoi Mr. Higashi is quoted “It is inevitable that big koi suffer from sinking sickness. I hate it when I grow koi big enough to use and they get sick right when I plan to use them.” Un quote.
What is “Sinking Sickness”? Is it an actual disease, or a symptomatic set of conditions of jumbo koi? Some background: Mr. Higashi used a 113 cm benigoi and a pair of Saki and Momotaro males to establish his own distinct line. He is planning on adding the blood of magoi to produce even stronger koi and avoid sinking sickness. In all, a very interesting article on a very extreme koi hobbyist.
