Israeli Koi - some questions

Hi to every one,

I followed the thread on Israeli koi and have some questions:

We know the Israeli koi industry took a major blow with the outbreak of KHV some years ago. We also know they went out of their way to do something about it. Any research and development in our industry is commendable.

The same applies to the Japanese breeders who have suffered as well ..... but -

Can some one please explain how you inject hundreds of thousands of koi - possibly millions of koi - with a KHV virus serum.

Please explain the mechanics of this ..... and the cost?

I have heard of an oral vaccine being developed and tested in Japan. I can understand how to administer an oral vaccine - but to inject ....... at what age/size? and to inject all exports?

Here in South Africa I have also heard the claims of Israeli breeders injecting koi to innoculate them.

We need a propeller head to work out how long it takes to catch and inject a single fish and the multiply this by the estimated number of fish being exported.

Has any one witness this inoculation program?

Perhaps a conveyor belt where thousands upon thousands of koi are dumped and hundreds of injection needles poke through the floor into any part of the koi that happens to be against the belt? mmmm - how do you control the dosage? What happens if you inject into an eye?

Regards,

Chris
