respect is such an interesting concept.
there was a guy in our building years ago who was owned a '64 vette. he talked about it all the time. i was impressed as he told me about installing a mechanical tach. he went into great detail about its advantages and how it is done and that he had done it the previous week.
a co-worker later told me that the guy had all the work on the vette done by a mechanic at the dealership. when he said he "had done it", he meant he had paid someone to do it.
i asked around, it was not just me, he tried to give everyone the impression that he did his own work on the car.
i had respected him not only for his knowledge, but his ability. it turned out his knowledge was not based on experience, it was based on reading and talking to others and then sharing it as if he had been there. he had no ability, he just paid others to do his work for him.
worst, he would lead you to believe one thing about himself when another was true.
there are people like that in every hobby, ponding is no exception.
