there is a system similar to what is described in the patent in the backyard of a house in San Mateo, California. The system was installed more than 20 years ago, by then ametuer koi pond designer/installer Terry Shimono. Terry told me that his father taught him that system when he was younger.

the pond was kind of shallow, with some really, I mean really, big kois in it. Not show koi though. the owner hardly change water in the 20+ yr since the pond was built.

The patent process in the US sucks big time. at one time I file for a few patenta pplications, the stupid people there tried to invalidate all of my applications by cross referencing each other.

Look at the lambada music from brazil, the patent belongs to some junkies in Germany, what the hell ?

as far as patent is concerned, if I think it hold no water, and there is prove of prior art, I will simply ignore it. IF the holder is not happy, I will tell them to go to hell.
