152.163.100.12 Since I can no longer seem to be able to log into Koi-Bito ( I've given up trying) I thought I'd respond to the guys discussing the clear water system over here. Yes, it is just a modified version of an UG system with several key modifications. The water flows horizontally as opposed the traditional down flow or the slightly more efficient upflow.
Perhaps more import is the depth and sand type. It is shallow and very light weight- almost buoyant. As the fish pass over it or root around in it, it becomes water borne for a moment or two- making it almost a dynamic media of sorts? The water is to flow like a river and the media is meant to neither pack, trap or become dense in any way.
Sakai ALWAYS preferences his remarks about this system with the statement that it is NOT meant for high class fish or tategoi but only a system for a ‘theme pond’ in a hotel or park setting.
