farne230,
Porous Media Showers ( of which Bakki media is one) work because of the amount of flow over the water...it is NOT the amount of GPH but the amount of times the pond's volume is moved through the media, as well as the SPEED at which the water moves through the tower.
Any porous media will harbor an adequate amount of the microbial life that is needed to do the necessary metabolizing of the fish wastes, and the water splattering over the media will provide the needed off gassing of the completely metabolised waste.
Necessity is the Mother of invention, and it was necesary for the marketers of bakki media to seperate and validate the price of the media...So they Invented the scenario that the "FIR" is what makes Bakki media worth the price. It is not the truth.
If ya got the money to waste, go ahead...but don't believe the FIR conspiracy.
I do believe Bakki media is as good as Lava rock, and you will not damage your koi by using it.
