Well, imho, releasing a virus we know little about, have no known cure for, and cannot control to minimize species reproduction is not a real smart way to go about it.
A- We do not know if khv can mutate and kill other species given the right environment.
B- Do they want to kill all carp and goldfish?
C- What about bluegill, sunfish, and other similar species?
D- What if it mutates and starts killing all types of things?

It's more than a little wreckless imho, and may just be a PR release to try to influence US legislators to lighten up by framing an uncontrollable virus, capable of wiping out entire species and populations in weeks, in a 'positive' light.

Kind of like 'Hey, AIDS isn't that bad. Look, some crazy doctors in Africa are considering using it as a form of populaiton control.' Hence, don't worry about AIDs, it's not that bad of a thing is the underlying message.....interesting how this pops out right during a legislation effort for the US.
