Last tried to squeeze for milt when it was around 45cm but can't get any. The koi is certified by Yohei as a hybrid. I've not measured it for a while but it's certainly no less than 70cm now, so I'm not complaining about it's length or growth rate for a young sansai. It's got an incredibly long body but a relative lack of girth makes it... shall I say not so appealing?

The question is, is there more to come from this koi because I've heard and read that Yohei hybrid don't show their true beauty less than 3 years of age. My Yohei seems to be putting more volume the past 3 months but still nowhere near my Maruboshi kohaku which is only about 6 months older.

Hi Dennis,

The Yohei Hybrids are just beginning to come of age. 4th generation koi are at most 3 years old so the next few years will begining to tell the story. Line breeding is now occurring (hybrid X hybrid) so the desirable traits will targeted and attemps to focus them going forward. It is a long shot but kind of exciting I think to watch it develop. I would definately keep your kohaku for several more years at least especially if it is female. Nothing worse than giving up too early before it has a change to bloom.
