Also, what type of media are you using in the upflow section? Is that supposed to be K1 media? Also, what size is this filter going to be? How many cubic feet of media is included? The concept is not bad, down flow outer with upflow inner with aireated media. Depending on size you can then figure your flow rate for your system. I think I remember you saying it will be about 6000 gal!? If this is pump fed, what will be the water source. Directly from bottom drains or will it be pulled from a vortex settling chamber?

I know, I started out saying I had ONE question, then I asked several more. These are things to think about but you may just have struck on a new idea of an old theme. If it works it's great! Also, in your post you mentioned that this would be a "pressurized" filter. Not unless the whole thing is totally sealed with a container can it be pressurized.

I was just speculating on how maybe I could make things better. I guess I have my work cut out for me. I am not intending to actually create it, but rather, stimulate peoples imaginations, aswell as mine.
The beads will be, well I guess could be K1 media.
The ichimatsu wont actually look like that, here is what It would really look like. Would it still work, would it be even effective. I was thinking that maybe the padding could be Matala. It seems to be rigid and can support itself.
