Saratogatan: I have seen reports of hikkui disappearing when a koi is placed in green water, whether a mud pond or a concrete one. Why??? I don't know, but I've got the idea that it may be because algified water can have excellent nitrogen parameters due to the algae consuming it. There are reports of high nitrate worsening hikkui, which JR mentions above. Maybe a connection? Don't know. Algae are known to have a mild anti-bacterial effect... maybe green water has an anti-viral effect? I've never seen a study of such.
