I don't know that I've ever heard a clear timeline distinction between Fry and Fingerling... Tosai to Nissai to Gosai is plain and simple, but all fry are technically tosai as are fingerlings... Our most recent hatch is officially 2 days old, tiny, and not fully formed. Our prior hatch is 4 1/2 weeks old, average length 1 1/2-3" and well formed. The newborns are definitely fry, but when do the others start being fingerlings??? One of them is as long as my middle finger now. Is he a fingerling, or still a Tobie Fry?
