Hi Mike,
I have two aerated bottom drains. The pond depth is 3 1/2 feet to 5 feet. We would have gone deeper but the labor cost involved to move and install a completely concrete pond was prohibitive. So we have a concrete collar and a block wall one the filter pit side.

Gene Winstead of Koi Village built these for me. Each bottom drain feeds one set of filters and the water is returned via a TPR.I also have a return from the skimmer to the waterfall that has been teed with another midlevel return.
The first filter chamber is a static prefilter.The best thing about that is how well it settles debri.I was amazed this week how much was in the bottom.The second chamber is biological filtration.
