I'm getting confused here. I thought #1 was a showa and #2 was a sanke - isn't that right pbng?
Both fish are okay. Personally, I like the sanke (#2). I don't think the back half will be as "heavy" as mentioned. I have a 4 year old Momotaro Sanke. She is now 24-25". The sumi is excellent quality and it started out something like yours. Mostly, what you see is what you get. It doesn't seem to keep coming and overtake areas as some bloodlines do. I think you'll be happy with either fish depending on which variety you like better on a personal level.
BTW, how are you getting tosai at this time of year. Normally, they don't arrive until spring? Where do you live and who is the dealer?
