Griff is one of the most wonderful, ingenious and practical back yard scientists and engineers I know of. His idea to shine an infrared heat lamp on plastic media along side the lava rock, which he says has some rays of its own because it, too, is a fired media, and BH media is a great experiment. He is such a friendly and enthusiastic person. Also, his wife must be very tolerant of his unsightly contraptions he festoons the property with.
Griff, you have to run this experiment in a garage where the ambient temperature of the room can be controled, right? Regular light bulbs must be used to shine on the other medias and keep them at the same temperature. This precaution to rule out the infrared lamp warming the plastic media causing it to cycle sooner than the others.
