Would like to share my encounters so far with Bakki shower. Still new, only a month into the process. Pond is 3500 gal, well over stock, 42 koi. Using a wave II 1/2 hp pump that is 8500 gal per hour, so I should be meeting requirements of BS. Pond is outside, but have heavy shade cloth 95% over pond. Live in Miami Fla. area so temp is not a problem. Using 10 boxes of Momotaro media. Within first week of BS, 0 readings of ammonnia, nitrite, very impressive, however, water clarity was poor. This is water from bottom drain straight to BS. Second week, water is pouring out over the top shower.
Pulled all the media out and to my surprise was about 1 inch of sludge around the container. Rinse media and try again. Within 14 days same thing happen again, so my conculsion was needed a prefilter. So , I install a 2.2 aquadyne bead filter. Now my koi club is really razzing me, cause I got the world's most expensive air shower, however something is going on, koi seem much more active, they are eating like little pigs. Water clarity has improve some, however still does not look like photos I have seen of Mike Snadden's site.
The media is now black on top with green algae, underneath, media is a golden brown color. Is everyone in agreement that this is proper of media levels of growth? How long does it take for media to truly establish? I have heard from 6 weeks to 4 months. With a prefilter that can handle 5000 gals and 10 boxes of BS media that can handle around 5000 gals, you would think I would have gin water, as of yet, has not happen. Water has a brown look to it.
I know what you thinking, check your well water. Well water is crystal clear, I even have a canister filter installed from well water. Well I am trying to keep the faith. I believe in Momotaro products, koi, see the DVD of him and his farm and it will make a believer of you. Any input, advise, would be of great importance. KOI KICHI!

PS. Can someone explain infared ray radioactive of Momotaro media in plain English? His site has little info on this.
