Hey, Girl'

From the data already collected, can you make any assumptions?

Hi SMG,

Besides water parameters, how are the fish doing? Any difference in behavior/ appetite btw the two tanks?

I said the koi have the same behavior but I did not describe the behavior. They swim around languidly, shoaling normally, and eat the two handfulls of koi food the ten koi in each tank get to eat each day.

LR tank

temp 78.8
pH 7.81
ORP 275
ammonia 0
nitrite off the scale
nitrate 10 ppm
clarity and foam here it is, such as it is

Hi SMG,

hmmm...'languidly'? Would you say they're not in optimal spirits? Or is this what you would expect from a newish setup?

Wonder if you could also state which day of the experiment it is (day 25?), together with the water parameters.

Thank you for the excellent work!

It is day 25. I would not say they are at maximum health behavior as they would be under fishus maximus water conditions. But they are not sick, either. They are just "OK". Its hard to really tell because I can only see them in the top foot of water depth. The water went through a cesspool stage of bad bacterial smell in the first 10 days. In addition, both tanks spawned on day 4 and 5. I can see that their little spawning injuries have healed with no ulcers appearing.

Koi in my other ponds would be slashing the water competing for food if feed only twice a day. I do wonder about the oxygen levels in these test tanks, but my oxygen test reagent is disabled by ammonia binder. Once the nitrite goes down I will say OK, time to pump this nasty water out of there, put UVs on and do the 10% daily water change overflow that I have not been doing. I want to do it as Maeda does it. Once safely cycled so there is no possible danger to the fish we can get down to finding out what is happening to the poop.

One more thing I did today. You know I test everything out here. I put 2 C per 1000 gallons of clay in both tanks to see if it would do anything to the DOCs.
