Hard choice

NOT FAIR
Given a choice between my quenching my curiosty or lust???

What the hell, I can always see algae. I have enough to export! Bring on the tee shirt

I do find it interesting that the DOCs are much lower in the Bakki Shower system compared to the lava-rock. It would suggest some additional advantage to the BS, but is is worth the extra cost? Lava is dirt cheap while the BS is expensive to say the least. The price difference would more than justifiy a foam defrationator. The other question is whether or not the BS exibits and addtional advantages as the media matures. It is often mentioned that Lava-roc tends to become closed off as bio-film matures and calcifies but is this any different to what the bacteria house media will be doing?

How long are you planning to continue running this set up Shiro. Any prospects of long term results?

Just for that, no picture of the empty wet T shirt I was going to take a picture of!

Here is the BH pond.

Now, 10 koi have lived in here for 2 months. I have never vacuumed the bottom. Wheres the poo? Whats more, what has happened to the foam?

Here, however, is the Lava Rock Bakki tank.

The stuff on the bottom is mostly pine needles. Where is the poop and DOC foam. I am changing 20% of the water 3 times a week. I intend to cut back and see if water Q deteriotates.

Here is the Lava Rock 12 crate Bakki array I climbed around on to investigate. The lava rock is clean looking too, no algae on it, though. ORP is mid 300's on both.

Is it the media or the method, what do you think? Too soon to tell I think.

Darn it Bikel... You had to go and ruin it for all of us!

The next question I would have is what happens when all is good and mature.
What a hoot if indeed the results stay the same! At that point the only real advantage would be the light weight of the BH media. Not enough to justify the cost I would think.
