| Festival of Fishkeeping/Koi Show.
This post is neither an advert or a report. I'm just explaining the concept in case its any use in your necks of the woods.
The Festival of Fishkeeping is an event older than any of the Koi Shows in the UK run by the Federation of British Aquarist Societys (FBAS). It is an event wherein dealers, manufacturers and hobbyists societies get together every year. For several years over maybe the last ten, one of the BKKS Sections has participated by holding a koi exhibition within it. Four or five years ago they were joined by other BKKS Section and three years ago they turned into a show (competition).
The current format is four clubs (sections), 5 tanks each, 6 show sizes, but a reduced number of Show Classes judged by BKKS judges. The judges have to pick a GC from each section as well as an overall GC. There is a seperate inter-section competion (for fun ?) whereby a points system decides how succesfull a section is.
The sections involved are the Middx & Surrey Borders (MSB), South Hants, South East and Worthing. Each are responsible for a different aspect of the show, eg Benching, Water Management, Running the raffle etc etc, which are rotated.
As well as the koi show there are also Goldfish shows, Tropicals, Catfish, Discus shows as well. All in all it makes for a good weekend out, and in the UK gives us a change to socialise with other Koi keepers before hibernating for the winter.
The show was this weekend (15 & 16th October) and when the results and pics are posted on a website I'll put a link in this thread.
