UMKC First Koi Show Scheduled...

We in Minnesota are very excited to announce our first show...

We are still very much in the early stages of planning, but wanted you all to mark the dates if you think you might be interested in attending. August 4th & 5th, 2007. February we will announce formally and have all details available on our web site. I'll announce this again at that time. So far we have committed "Masano", who is a Shinkokai Judge. We are working on finalizing one other and hopefully adding a candidate judge (yet to be determined) also. The venue is Bachman's Nursery located on Lyndale in south Mpls. We will be constructing a "flow through" water system (one of 4-I believe- in the country) and adding splash guards as well between each tank. We will have interpreters on hand as well so you will have the opportunity to ask questions and to learn from some of best minds in the hobby.

Locally we have many entertainment sites that can be visited as well. Mall of America, Water slide parks, Mystic Lake Casino, Valley Fair, some of the best museums and playhouses are available as well along with many other opportunities. Check out our local Target Center to see if any interesting entertainment is being presented as well. Hotels and airport are located within a short driving distance as well. The show banquet was determined to be a very social BBQ at one of our member's gardens. Photos will be posted also on our web site in February.

There will be many more details to follow as we finalize things.

Jan, thanks for the words of encouragement!! We give a lot of credit to the advice of the RMKC (Bob Winkler), the expereince we've had at that show and the advice given from a member and friend out of the OK Koi Society. We are modeling our show partly on the RMKC show and adding some features from the OK Koi Society. The splash guards, considering the last year in the hobby dealing with KHV, are the wave of the future for shows we believe so we are using the ideas from the LV club's first show and putting them in place right from the get go. We are a small club right now, but have the support of most of our membership, thankfully. Koddos go to these folks to be sure!!! Most of them not having a clue about what is involved in putting on a koi show, but nonetheless, they are there to help and learn!!

So glad Bob and our RMKC were a help to you, Sue. (this is Jan Thompson, from CO, Sue)
Does this mean you will still have time to bring and share your fish to our show next Aug. in Denver? Hope so.

Jan, I thought this was you, but wasn't sure!!

Hey, why do you think we scheduled our show BEFORE your show? Of course we'll be there!! Wouldn't miss it!! Since we are having our show a few weeks before yours we should have recovered by then!! I did have some say in the dates!! Hee, hee!!! August is turning out to be one busy month. We've got our show, your show in Denver, Chicago and we are considering a 1st time appearance at the ZNA show as well that follows Chicago in the same area. I think that show is the 1st weekend of September though.

Sue, congrats to you and the many koi keepers in the north that now have another opportunity to show their fish locally. I was thinking about the Louisville show this year in addition to the two Chicago area shows (MPKS and ZNA). Outside of the Chicago area, Louisville was the next closest location for us as far as an opportunity to show our fish. MN is right next door. I didn't put in a specific location but pulled up Minneapolis in www.maps.yahoo.com and it was just over 4 hours for us. Louisville is just over 6 hours for us and we are still considering that show as well. If we can make these 4 shows this year that would be grand indeed.

Jan, we have to talk about your recent trip to Wisconsin at the end of Nov. sometime soon. Looking for a status report on your adventure.

Wow Clay, that's great!! You are close. Maybe you can consider coming up for a visit right around show time!! Hee, hee!!! We are also considering the Louisville show, but we'll have to see how it fits into our already busy show schedule.

The Judges are all set, VENDOR PACKETS are uploaded to the web site, SHOW RULES ARE IN PLACE, FLOOR PLAN DONE AND UPLOADED.....now comes the real work!!

Please visit our web site for more details.

http://www.umkoiclub.org/koishow.htm

Bachman's Nursery is our venue. They are the "premier" landscape nursery locally. They are donating space (greenhouse with excellant protection from the weather and natural lighting), water (well), electricity and a huge effort in advertising which will include TV spots, local newspaper ads and in-store promotions as well. We anticipate a very good public turnout.

Our show committee decided early on that we would install a flow through water system for the show tanks and will be adding splash guards between each show tank. Water quality is excellant and we have taken every precaution possible to protect the health of all fish entered in the show.

Wet vendors will be required to present a KHV free Health Certificate at the time of check in.

We have also decided that this will be a true hobbyiest show. We have added a "3 month" rule. Exhibitor's fish must be in the hands and under the care of the owner for at least 3 months prior to the show for 2007. In 2008 this rule will be extended to 6 months.

If anyone is interested in participating as a vendor or exhibitor, please don't hesitate contacting the appropriate show personnel listed in the packets on our web site.

Thanks all for your continued support!!

Sue

As of this am the UMKC vendor spaces are 85% filled. We will be meeting with Bachman's within the next 2 weeks to see if we can open up more room in the greenhouse to accomodate more booths. It's looking really good so far!!
