ZNA SoCal 33rd Annual Koi Show March 24 & 25 2007

Dear Members and Friends of ZNA Southern California Chapter Koi Club,

Our 33rd Annual Open Koi Show will be held on March 24-25, 2007, at the Gardena Civic Center Complex (1700 West 162nd Street, Gardena, California 90247). This year’s show will be dedicated to one of our founding members, Charlie Seu. A memorial award (Best Shiro Utsuri) has been established to honor Charlie who was a pillar of our organization and loved by all.

The show will again be held “English Style” and will be open to the public free of charge. Enclosed are show packets and/or flyers containing information about this event. You can help us publicize our show by spreading the word among your koi kichi friends, displaying our show information at club meetings, and posting show flyers at koi related businesses. If you would like to volunteer to help with the koi show please contact club president, Don Kobashigawa, at (818) 207-3238 or donkobash@aol.com .We could use all the help we can get!!!

Several show activities have been scheduled throughout the weekend. Learn about pond building and koi husbandry at our Saturday 1-4pm Lecture Series (show site). Join us for the Awards Banquet on Saturday Evening, 6:30pm at the Holiday Inn Torrance Gateway Hotel. At the Banquet there will be entertainment and a “Show Stopper” Gin Rin Sanke to be raffled off, but the winner MUST be present! Sunday Morning, participate in a Guided Commentary of the winning koi by ZNA Show Judges. They will describe the different types of koi and the attributes that make a champion fish! Also, on Sunday at 11 am, join us for the Great Koi Auction where you may be able to purchase show quality koi at discounted prices.

Our show will also host several Japanese cultural activities. On Saturday, there will be entertainment by Taiko Drummers and an ensemble of Japanese Singers. During both days the public may participate and learn from experts about Ikebana (Japanese flower arrangement), Origami (Japanese paper folding), Bonsai tree trimming, Orchid care, and Sumi-e (Japanese water color painting). Come participate and join in on the fun!

This show promises to be one of the premiere koi events of the year. It will be a memorable experience whether you plan to enter koi in the competition, participate as a vendor, or simply attend the show as an observer. Thank you for your continued support of our club activities. We look forward to seeing you at our 33rd Annual ZNA SoCal Chapter Koi Show.

Sincerely,

Chai Taevanitcharoen - Show Chairman Don Kobashigawa – Club President

This is an English style show open to koi hobbyists. Club affiliation is required. All fish shown must be
the personal and private property of the registrant. This is a ZNA rules show and therefore is not open to
Koi Professionals. For the purposes of this show, the ZNA definition of Koi Professional is; "one who
derives income from a Koi hobby related business". Examples would be as follows:

a.
Koi retailer or wholesaler (dealer), immediate relative of a Koi dealer or employee of a Koi dealer

b.
Dry goods retailer/wholesaler - sells Koi food, pond filtration supplies, is a pond installer, pond
maintenance, etc. In general, provides direct hobby related items or services affecting the life of
Koi.

c.
Examples of those exempt/not falling into the categories of a. / b. are businesses like; Koi
pins/design, Koi related jewelry or home decorations such as art or ceramics and other things of
a like nature. Any questions as to whether an entrant might fall into a particular category above,
should be addressed to the Koi Show Director/Co-Chairs.

d.
An entrant must not have qualified as a Koi Professional for a period of one year prior to the
show.

This was from Don Chandler on other forum where I asked about showing:

Quote:
Wet dealer no. Dry dealer yes. Pond builder not wet dealer unless you sell fish two. Only my thoughts and worth what you paid.
Ok so I don't import Koi or sell Koi am just dry goods only/designing/counsultation/Installation........does this then mean I can enter your show? Based on this answer and what you have in your rules?

It seems tha ZNA rules state no dealers (Wet/Dry) anyone profiting from the business or employee's. So need to have a clear answer on this. I have a personal collection and have have had it for years, but have always been turned down because of my biz am in. I can't show at my own show S.D. so have not even tried .............so if someone could answer this I would thank you.

I am in the same situation as you. I have been told, in no uncertain terms, that under the ZNA rules, a pond builder is considered "professional". I've stopped fighting the issue even though I don't see the corolation between building ponds and having a personal collection of koi and wish to compete as an amateur. The bottom line is this: IF YOU SELL DRY PRODUCTS OR INSTALL PONDS, INCLUDING FILTERS AND OTHER EQUIPMENT, YOU ARE CONSIDERED BY ZNA RULES TO BE A PROFESSIONAL!!

If you would like to pm me to ask any further info, feel free to do so.

K D S D . . .

Every one has an opinion. You were told to contact Don K. and/or Chai T. (the ZNA SoCal President and Show Chair) if you wanted an answer to your question.

You were given their email addys. You were told they make and enforce the rules. Have you contacted them?

'Cause everything else is an opinion and worth what you paid for it -- which is exactly nothing. Again.
