Why breed koi?

I'd bred several kinds of pet in my childhood and teens,

however I's unable to breed koi coz the problem of space.

Therefore having a koi pond became my first hope on my dream house.

On the other hand,

koi may release my stresses.

How about u?

Breeding

Jason

When you say breeding do you mean the actual spawning of koi and then growing the fry or do you mean purchasing koi and then growing.

I know in Japan the term 'breeding' applies to the latter, i.e. growing koi on.

Mark,

I mean the latter,

but hope to enjoy the former.

Call a Spade a Spade, it is nearly infeasible to cultivate spawning of koi in Hong Kong due to our limited living space.

Moreover, our local technique & knowledge on koi breeding are limited when it is not popular due to our common limited living space. However I'm very happy to discover this web site when it introduces me a way to learn.

Keeping koi

I think many/most people fall into being koi keepers. By this I mean that very few decide they want to keep koi and then go and build a large purpose built pond. The normal path seems to be build a garden pond, buy some goldfish, then buy some koi and then........well then you are on the route to being a koi keeper.

There is something very infectious about koi, they can get there claws into you and once hooked very difficult to get away.

Jason,

Living in the greater Tokyo area, with the price of land being what it is, I can certainly appreciate your situation in HK!

Unfortunately, no. Our plans have been changed due to a lawsuit concerning the land that we were purchasing...

Well, as I've now learned, real estate is a very crooked business in Japan. You would be amazed at what people can get away with! I'll spare you the details, but I remain absolutely amazed what a grey area real estate and contract laws and fraud issues occupy in this country...

Brian,

I'm so sorry to hear about it.

But Japanese is one of the most faithful people in the world (in my mind).
