Just had a nice chat with Arthur , proprietor of the dealership that has the

asagi in the middle post that Dan posted. Quite the koi and I believe

around 30 inches! most of my girls are in the mid 20's and that big enough

to handle, let alone a wild asagi! Kinda nice to chat with the owners of the nice koi pictured. sure would like to know who owns the one from the San Diego show.....

The asagi photo I posted above is incorrect. Somehow I duplicated here from another post - "Help from the U. K. This is the correct photo.

A second photo of above asagi. Have not figured out the new system of posting more than one at a time.

I've had it for about a year now. I got it last winter and kept it in an overcrowded, but heated, inside 150g tank. The poor thing was barely 5" last winter and couldn't/wouldn't compete with larger fish for food. A very shy fish that way.

In the inside tank the red started fading. Once outside all summer (and outside this winter) the red strengthened and the fish became bolder near the end of summer. The colors overall became stronger and the red crept up a little, but not too much. The red did reach the eyes at the end of summer -- that picture was taken in October. Still relatively shy; doesn't hand feed and still doesn't eat aggressively.

Breeder: wish I knew. I was given this fish to babysit for a fellow hobbyist and it has since become mine. I was told it was a top tosai from some japanese breeder. It was imported by Sacramento Koi.

I still don't know if it is male or female. Next year will be particularly interesting for this fish.

thank-you Jason for filling in the blanks. come to thoink of it in all the years of seeing asagi's I don't remember them as the most friendly. In my pond it's the akemae kigoi, and before her it was a yamabuki ogon.
I'm still in the process of looking for one. I'd hate to think of my gosanke if I'd have but as much effort into them as I have this cracy variety!
let me know if you get a chance to "inherit" another one. I think that'd be a lot easier! (lol)
