Mike M,
I have a letter from the good dr that I value more than anything. What you quoted is probably my mantra. he was such a great man. He loved people as a caring Dr and loved his koi. thanks for the quote...it's a good one!

Reading an old Japanese koi magazine, I came across a comment I've not heard before. It was stated that Asagi and Shusui turn dark when there is high iron content in water. There was an implication that it may be iron content rather than hardness that affects darkening in Asagi. Of course, hard water can have a high iron content. As so often occurs in translation from Japanese, the meaning is not as clear as one would like.

Talked to Mat Mc Cann today at Quality koi. He bred Asagi from a female that Toshio sakai had procured for them. he said he was gonna harvest the pond end of next month with the tosai's from that spawn. I found it interesting that this koi has magoi blood in it, so was looking forward to seeing what the babies turn out to be. instead of buying an older more expensive koi, I may opt to get several tosai like the japanese do and invest in a few years to see what turns out. maybe i can talk him out of a photo when the time comes.

Dick,
Whats up with Quality Koi's website, they havent updated in a very long time? Also what pond are they using to raise the fry, certainly not an outdoor one because its horribly cold here in New Jersey?

Best Regards,
Alex Gibbs

hey alex!
Thanks for the weather report ! He told me he was busy building new ponds. i assume he's got the youngster's outside as he diddn't have them in an inside facility. said they were about 4-5 inches long. with this coldsnap, you don't think they'd get nipped in the "bud" do you?
