Hi Mike - yeah kumonryu is mine (no - not from ebay) 14 inch female - had 2 eyelashes once, then one receded. Eventually I hope she starts to blossom - never know with these. My avatar picture is my newest koi. Ogawa female 25 inches and turned 3 this October. Could not resist! Wife tried, but also unsuccessful (with me that is). Glad to see you got your avatar picture up - I like it.

kumonryu

glad you have the chance at owning that kumonryu... at that size she should start to whiten her patch and really stand out. I have a bit different look, my fish is a mostly white with the everchanging black pattern. Don't have pic of it as it is an it yet at 9" and hard to tell the sex yet. 'av fish is going into its forth winter and is 28 inches long. Had a real close call with her las summer she got sick and managed to pull her through a beacterial prob just in time. As far as fish on ebay I did see one a lot like yours. there are a few very nice fish on the bay often one seller royalkoi always has some nice ones up not quite as awsome as your av fish but that one is a knockout.

Here's my contribution. A gin rin Matsukawabake in all her glory (circa 1999) these days she looks alsmost totally black.

However, when you bowl her the overlaying sumi is semi transparent like she's wearing shades and you can see all the gin detail underneath.

Bern - have seen her before in all her glory (pictures somewhere). All I can say is you're a very lucky man. What a beautiful koi. I bet she is still quite stunning even with shade effect you mention. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah I expect you have.

There's quite a few photos of her about, probably the most famous one is in Kate McGill's Koi Appreciation book.

I also posted a pic of her on NI two or three years ago.

Another black and white koi. It's a ginga that I bought 2 years ago (13 inches in the photo). It developed what appeared to be a tumor, but upon operating (by someone in a local club with experience), it turned out to be a moss or fernlike reddish growth that completely covered it's internal area. The fish recovered but eventually died. Relatively new variety, ginga meaning milky way so I'm told. To me it appeared to be a metallic version of a matsukawabake. Anyone else know what a ginga is?

Hi Dan,

My understanding is that a Ginga is a metalic Matsukawabaki. I don't have a problem with that. But one dealer over here advertised Doitsu Ginga's.

Work that one out?
