Hi Mike,

I daresay the frogs would love it! ;-)

As for drains... consider that they are about 20 feet apart. We are talking about the build up of slimy grime. Persoanlly, I don't see why they bother, as they certianly don't ever look like they need cleaning.

Mike.

great pics mark the thing that stricks me as being so different to what we do here is we take years to mature the water and they empty it out once a year or is it re used ?also the filter bacteria must die back alot.

Mark - I noticed in both photos that there are two sets of towers with four trays in each. First is that the total of showers in use for this 500 ton pond? The reason I ask is when I inquire about number of trays to use, I find the general rule of thumb suggested is that a 4000 gallon pond would use 120kg of media (bacteria house) in two, one meter long, four tier trays. This seems like overkill to me or a marketing ploy. Can you or anyone else clarify this. Thanks

the area down the right hand side of the pond is submerged bacteria house media which replaced jap mat cartridges whilst cleaning undertaken.

You can see a whole lot more pics at http://www.madaboutkoi.com/japanpics

I note i made an error, the pool was being refilled whilst we were there as i have a pic of it half full. So timescales day 3&4 of our trip it was cleaned, day 5 it was half full.

Thanks Mark - that helps with the 500 ton pond , but is that general rule of thumb I mentioned accurate for a 4000 gallon? Thanks again.

Paul,
They are not pics of the cleaning of the 'monster pond', they are pics of one of the two 500t ponds being cleaned.
