Marudo kohaku for Mike Pfefer.

Mike you were saying you were into Marudo kohaku and I thought I'd show you mine.
I bought it two years ago in Japan and thought I had a bargin. I should have asked the sex though!
It was bought as nisai and had a super body and no sign of yellowing of the head. After a year living with my female koi, it started to get a yellow head, so I hooked it up and a light squeeze revealed milt.
It now lives with my male koi!
It's prone to shimmies, that's something to remember.
I have somewhere some photos of Hirasawa sans kohaku oyagoi he bowled while I was there, I'll try and dig them out, may be of interest to you.

Nice quality. take last march.

Very good body for a male koi.
If you did not say anything I would have thought it was female for sure.
Very strong and broad back too.
Very very nice.

Mike's Kohaku.

Mike Pfeffer has sent me a photo of his Marudo kohaku to post.
Quality looks excellent to me and from the build has good growth potential.
Mike says it doesn’t suffer with shimmies as mine does. Perhaps mine was a kohaku sanke that slipped through, but I have taken 4 shimmies off so far and it has another at the moment. They all come in the same area, I can remove them completely, without a mark, but they keep returning.

Maurice.

Marudo

Thanks Maurice-

I bought her in October 2002 at 35 cm. I was not able to return in October of 2003 however, the dealer did and had her shipped to me in November 2003 at 57 cm. I was very pleased with the growth. I would have liked to keep her in Japan for an additional year but it was not to be. I have two other Marudo kohaku, one male, one female that I purchased in the US when Marudo was visiting back in August 2001. I've had them for over two years and no shimmies. The male, believe it or not, is doing pretty well in koi shows. Great skin. I have a good feeling about Mr. Hirasawa(Marudo) and he is a must visit for me this October.

thank-you Maurice for posting. the bennie on your male is incredible. from a breeding viewpoint the fact that it turnout to be a male may prove to be a good thing.

Mike, I like your koi and I agree that it looks like it'll grow some!

Dick, Maurice, Aquitori-

My Marudo kohaku is doing well. The first year back in the US, she did not grow much in length. She has started to fill out a little but doesn't have the girth I'd like to see yet. I have a prof. photographer coming to the house in a few weeks and I should get a good picture then. Interestingly enough, I have another female Marudo kohaku in my pond. This one is one year older and didn't get the benefit of an additional year in the mud pond. But her skin quality, skin color and girth are TOTALLY different than my other Marudo kohaku. May explain what you are seing with your male.
