Shinoukai measuring vessels

Does anyone know what sort of price these are and their general availability in Japan as I want one and the UK price is rediculous!?

Greetings Mark,

If I were you I'd email Fujio Oomo and ask for him to get you a quote.
You probably know of him, in ojiya-has women's dress shop there, recently got into breeding showas, speaks extremely good english. Mark bodycott at USA koi is pretty chummy with him. Know him Mark?

Hi Dick

I have several 'feelers' out in Japan already.

I know of Mark and Fujio but know neither personally.

Cheers

How much is that measuring tray? Besides looking cool, you can put measuring marks on the side of your straight tub?

I have one of those measuring trays, bought in Japan at one of the dry goods stores 3 years ago. The price then was either 9000 or 18,000 yen. Sorry, memory is bad about that. It was also expensive to ship, as it didnt fit into any regular koi boxes because of it's length. Essentially cost the same as a box of koi from Japan to ship it, and luckily I was able to split the cost with another hobbyist who also bought one. Mine was shipped home through Infiltration.

So I have one, but have very infrequently used it. It is much easier to use the square tub I marked years ago.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Bob.

Given the UK retail price i'd reckon Y9000.

I understand 2 sizes 90cm and 65cm and i'm after the small one so could probably fit it in my hand luggage ;-)

Mark:

Just viewed the Momotaro DVD put out by Brian of KoiBito...One segment shows Maeda san measuring his koi...

All he uses is what looks like a meter L x 30cm W x 45cm deep blue tub with a white tape rule glued to the side and bottom...

His assistant places the the koi in the tub, Maeda san turns it in the right direction, pulls it to the side of the tub with the rule, places the nose to the short side of the tub (0cm), holds the koi in place with his left hand and flattens the tail with his right, and calls out the measurement...

Was measuring nisai and up...ranging from 30-80 cm koi straignt just in from the mud ponds...no thrashing, no problems...Sometimes it's best to keep it simple...

This seems like an inexpensive way to go....

Aloha! Mike

Mike

I know how Maeda measures koi, you may have noticed the bit on the DVD where i'm stood next to him whilst he does it!

My question wasn't about how to measure koi or suitable bowls for doing so, it was specifically about the Shinkoukai vessels.

Cheers

Now that you mention it, I do remember seeing you there...Just out of curiosity what is the advantage of using the Shinkoukai vessel...Never too late to learn something new...
