Dick,

I can't begin to express in words how happy your post made me. I also thought this to be an excellent article, and am glad that other folks are getting something out of it. You'll be happy to know that Mr. Ozawa also be doing an Asagi article, in addition to the Hosokai interview.

I'd also like to thank the people that sponsor us by advertising in the magazine, as they help make it all possible. We're always on the look out for new quality sponsors, so please share your thoughts/praise of the magazine with both current and prospective sponsors.

Wow that's great news! I was also really impressed with his most recent tosai article, it taught me much that i did not know. I plan to study and re-study it in hopes that when i eventually do start to collect sanke, i will pick the right ones.

After a couple years of trying to pick the best asagi tosai i can find and afford, i am very eager to see what such an expert has to say about it.

Will he cover any other varieties in up-coming issues? Koromo maybe? (fingers crossed)

All in all i think issue 7 was fantastic. However, ... as much as I think its great to see a non go-sanke on the cover for a change, i fail to see the beauty of this particular kawarimono. Sure its big, but . . . ?

Can anyone help see what i am missing in this fish?

Hi Matt,

It's not so much the beauty of the kawarigoi on the cover, but more the testament to the man that can't seem to find the 1 meter koi that he's looking for. Very nice guy.

Would I like something like that swimming in my pond? But if I knew it was 1cm off of being 1 meter then what the hell why not. I also wanted to bring up a good question about how the breeders in Japan are worried about the other asian countries coming up in the production of Nishikigoi. When those countries get down the culling aspect of this hobby then will the Japanese consider them a threat? :?:

Rick,
I was in the nespaper business for 16 years. My job was a tough one. I determined by the amount % of advertising how big the section would be
in order to keep us in business. the editors would always want more space because they had lots to tell. the advertising department would make promises to advertisers that specific locations would be guaranteed
if they would just run a nice big ad. they would also promise color which locked in certain locations. At the end of the day I had lots of departments mad at me. But we kept in business during a time of falling economy. Circulation had part time drivers that had another job. if I didn't get the paper out on time, they didn't get delievered by the school kids who left and went to school. Many times I turned the editors down on a breaking story so they got scooped by other media because I could not afford to have late papers when the Mall stores hired extra help and ran a big sale. They would have opened their doors to no shoppers!
I say all this in hopes you'll understand that being a publisher is not easy. Your input will always be appreciated here because that's the Way Brian is. he is doing everything possible to bring us high quality pictures
and educational info. But in order to grow the business we need to see more advertisers. Bottom line.
Rick, In all honesty I have subscribed to close to a dozen different koi publications over my koi life. If I had to pick one, I liked the best because of content, it would be KB. I am not affiliated with this magazine or have any business interest. I am however in all probability his #1 fan.
I hope you'll hang in there with Brian. If you know any koi business types already advertising please let them know you appreciate it. If you know someone looking for a place to advertise please encourage them to place their advert here!
In time, this magazine will be in a position to run lots of info. In the meantime, hang in there please with Brian and tell your koi kichi's to subscribe. The more eyes that see an advert, the more that business sees results.
I will put my "soapbox" away, now I just wanted all to understand what it's like to "walk in his shoes".....

hi mate I have had the mag from no1 and love it .its the japanese side of the hobby that intrerests me the most the main reason why I am going over in november is to learn, I for one hope this mag does not go the way of NI with too many adverts although I now what you are saying . it is just I felt there was not enough to read in this copy compaired to the others which took me a while to get through.

Most agree but it’s the content (written word) that is so far for me the biggest upper in KB. I still subscribe to both NI and KK and layout and pictures are so far as I'm concerned.

There is the problem with location to source and here KB has a golden nugget. If you deliver stuff like you have done (inside and raw) we can appreciate this like it is, an opinion off Mr.X. This is a genuine treat and we sincerely hope you do your best to let this shine through in every issue. This will mean emphasize on the written and this is the slot that all free at the moment. Evaluations, add, new products are available in abundance.
