| Rick,
I was in the nespaper business for 16 years. My job was a tough one. I determined by the amount % of advertising how big the section would be
in order to keep us in business. the editors would always want more space because they had lots to tell. the advertising department would make promises to advertisers that specific locations would be guaranteed
if they would just run a nice big ad. they would also promise color which locked in certain locations. At the end of the day I had lots of departments mad at me. But we kept in business during a time of falling economy. Circulation had part time drivers that had another job. if I didn't get the paper out on time, they didn't get delievered by the school kids who left and went to school. Many times I turned the editors down on a breaking story so they got scooped by other media because I could not afford to have late papers when the Mall stores hired extra help and ran a big sale. They would have opened their doors to no shoppers!
I say all this in hopes you'll understand that being a publisher is not easy. Your input will always be appreciated here because that's the Way Brian is. he is doing everything possible to bring us high quality pictures
and educational info. But in order to grow the business we need to see more advertisers. Bottom line.
Rick, In all honesty I have subscribed to close to a dozen different koi publications over my koi life. If I had to pick one, I liked the best because of content, it would be KB. I am not affiliated with this magazine or have any business interest. I am however in all probability his #1 fan.
I hope you'll hang in there with Brian. If you know any koi business types already advertising please let them know you appreciate it. If you know someone looking for a place to advertise please encourage them to place their advert here!
In time, this magazine will be in a position to run lots of info. In the meantime, hang in there please with Brian and tell your koi kichi's to subscribe. The more eyes that see an advert, the more that business sees results.
I will put my "soapbox" away, now I just wanted all to understand what it's like to "walk in his shoes"..... |
