The use of magnets in filter.

I have seen in some of the pic of Japanese filters they use magnets. Is this to remove the heavy metals in the filter as fish waste is passed through it? Just wanted to figure out why they use it for.

Many of the popular magnets used in japan are made in the states not far from you!

Magnets were first used as a poor man's UV. The strong force disrupts simple cells for plant life (read algea) and for certain parasites and bacteria. The "bulbs" never need changing. They are very expensive however!

one does not want them anywhere around their pump or other electrical equipment.

outisde of japan the Brits were the first to really use them!

as in most things japanese when you read all the scientific study they did
before developing their use, you will learn they align the water cells to all face the same way etc etc. They used them and still do in their "magy" units which are at the end of the return line and are credited with helping the water to hold more oxygen.

I'm sceptical about any benifit dirived from the use of magnets. I have yet to see any hard science supporting the benifit of using permanent magnets to treat water.
If you ask me it is all nothing but snake oil. I once saw a set of magnets that claimed to destroy suspended algae. The only theory I could come up with was that the algae cells passed through the magnets and then laughed themselves to death.
