Sein Net

Hello Jaco

When I was on holiday in Gautang, I visited a few koi farms and outlets and if I remember the saleslady at Koi King in Benoni offered me netting to troull a mud dam. You can perhaps contact them.

Regards
Roy at the sea

I bought a high quality net a few years ago approximately 25 ft 5 ft deep with weights and floats for just under $500 Canadian. A US dollar is $1.30 approximately. It is one thing to have the net it is another thing to catch mature koi the more help you have the better I usually have to do it myself. I notice that the Japanese have their ponds well landscaped for catching too. the sides of mine tend to erode over time making catching tougher too. The easiest way is to drain the pond but that isn't necessary in South Africa. Here they need to come out in the fall anyway.

Hi again,
Aquatic Eco Systems must have someone reading this board because I received an e-mail from them saying they will send the net since I bought from the before.
Roy the nets King Koi sells are made from a netting that has too much drag and they say that is all they can get me.
So thanks for everyone for the help
Jaco

I've purchased most of my seines from Delta Net and Twine in Greenville, Mississippi. They are hand made and have always worked well for me. While not cheap, they've always been reasonable.

Most folks order thier seine too small. It needs to be at least 30% longer than the widest pond to be seined and at least 25% deeper than the deepest point to be dragged over. At least.

For general koi use, I've always used a 3/16" mesh ace weave. However, I'm considering moving to a 1/4" raschel on my next net as it is a stronger, longer lasting weave. Sometimes I've got to seine up other species like tilapia, bass, or shad.

The seines I saw in Japan were much lighter weight than what I use. Easier to fish with, but I bet they don;t last as long. My current seine is about 6 years old and gets used at least two or three times a week. It is due for replacement soon. It is about 250' x 8' deep.

Good luck with your new seine, it is always with apprehension when I open the box and use a new seine the first time. Wondering if I ordered the right thing or not.

My whole life I've had to work in "mixed systems". I'd been plenty happy to just "go metric" like the rest of the world.

Try these on for size.....

grams per gallon-for figuring medication and other dosages in pond water

millilitres per gallon-same use

Another one, kilograms per acre-foot.

How about trying to thread a six inch NPT pipe fitting onto a 150 mm pipe??? Can't be done, no matter how "close it looks." Get a welder and a fabricator to do it.

I and every farmer I know has to have two tool kits, one English, the other Metric. Heck, half of my equipment has both!

Unfortunately our short sighted leadership continues to fail our children by continuing to confuse them mightily by forcing them to learn to use both systems and to mix them up in daily use.

I envy your ability to only have to learn and work in one system of measurement. Wish the US would wake up on this one.

By the way, hope your new net is all you hope it to be. Nothing like taking that brand new, brilliantly white new net and putting it into some muddy water to fish with. Won;t ever look the same again.

Brett
