With apologies to my friends who are technically correct but I still list shiro's from the heart

Sakai-Isawa, Igarashi Kazuto-mushigame, Iizuka, Nagashima

kohaku
hasegawa, Sakai Hiroshima and Isawa, Daiinichi

sanke
Sakai isawa, Shintaro, Igarashi, daiinichi

Showa,
Igarashi kazuto, daiinichi, nogami and last but not least for his enthusiasm,
determination and pure love of the breed Fujio Oomo-Ojiya

like Brian said these list tend to be incomplete and means no disrepect to the many talented breeders not mentioned but just as deserving ( ie: Yagenji )

Dick, or anyone....

Can you compare the sanke breeders listed (Sakai Isawa, Shintaro, Igarashi, Daiinichi) with respect to the beni. Are there any obvious differences? Do any of these lines have the dark red (purple) hi versus persimmon? Would also be interested in any other characteristics which differentiate sanke from these (or other) breeders.

Thanks in advance.

Your right Mike, Isa deserves to right up there!

Steve,

wow that's a difficult question. Anymore I don't think there's a whole lot of difference from the beni color as many are using the same gene pool for beni.
I have always prefered the soft reddish orange of dainichi. I must say I'm so impressed with the new black of sakai-isawa!

They are all great breeders and will continue to do so, however everyone forgets the smaller breeders especially in the north.About 10 % of all breeders production is top quality the finest koi. Its just that places like Sakai hiroshima are about the same size as a Niigata village housing about 7 koi breeders. So the massive volume of koi cant be bread, leaving a small amount of koi to be top class. And when you visit Hiroshima sakai your see hundreds of high class koi, just think if a breeder in the niigata area such as Kazuto could have the same facilities and space
I too am drawn to Mr. Igarashi's quality gosanke. From what I've seen (in pictures only) has always sparked my interest in his offerings. One of these days, I will make the trek out north with our local rep to say hello. What a fine day that will be. Of course if I make that visit, it would only mean that I won't be coming home empty handed...hahaha. At least I can dream...

I agree Mike. I thought was good for many reasons including the intial request to come from Europe, they have different favorites then the USA,
was really nice to see Brian active and contributing , and it seemed to be a popular subject.

Maybe we should start ones for the other color variety show classes.
I for one would like to find a good breeder of GR Matuskawabake. It's one difficult koi to breed on a high level but I love them
