Brian - weather update?

Brian

Can you give us an on the ground weather update and it's impact, if any, on the harvests?

I note CNN report landslides and missing people in Okayama!

I rememeber on the 1st day of the Auction the weather was horrible, a typhoon just ripped through, swelling the river....nothing to bad, just some worries of the river goin over the banks.

Andrew remarked to me from your pics that we had never seen the river look like it did!!!!

It's only ever been a shallowish looking clear river when we've seen.

Okayama and Southern Japan sounds like a mess. I hear that there are 68 dead so far and the nuimber is continuing to rise. Hope Momotaro is okay, they are so close to the river.

Did you see the news footage of the Hiroshima area? Incredible winds, giant trees toppling over downtown. Hopefully all the breeders down south are ok.

I think Niigata is in good shape though. The storm moved to eastern Japan as it came north, and it left us here on Sado unharmed. I think the Ojiya and the mainland are also okay. I cant make it this weekend as i planned (school culture festivals) but I will post if i hear of any bad news. And I'll get up there again next weekend.

Hopefully, my kohaku I bought at the Auction is safe in the greenhouse. Daisuke was say they got flooded out before, they lost most of Seio's brothers and sisters from the last flood, but that was in the mud ponds...That's why they were saying there are alot of high quality Kohakus in the river. I hope they are all safe there at the farm.

The hurricane was certainly powerful, even here. I've not heard of any damage to koi breeders in the West of Japan, but will let you know when I do.

I too hope all is well at Momotaro, I have fish in those mudponds, grief I hope they don't go the way of Seio's brothers and sisters!!

Mike should have just got there, I'll ring him and see what the news is.

I just spoke with Mike who's at Momotaro.
All is fine there, their worst weather was two days ago when the river got to within one metre of bursting it's banks! If you've been you'll appreciate the enormity of that statement in that the river is normally what, about 6 metre's down the bank? That is one serious amount of water!
Anyway, it didn't burst and all is fine there with quite pleasant weather today but a little chilly, Mike reports.

Nice to hear all is fine there at the farm and that Mike made it there safe. Oh yeah, I saw that the Rinko has pics of the auction in it and if anyone has a copy of sale I want it....
