when is the next issue of koi Bito due?

I have Koi-Bito magazine 1 thru 7 . Am I up to date and current? It seems I haven't seen an issue in a while? Or is that my imagination? JR

Yes JR, you are very up to date. But I have a feeling that #8 will visit us soon. I am sure Brian is working hard on it.

This is the issue I have waited for for a very long time. #8, a very auspicious number in China and one that will put to rest years of waiting on my part for an
article on my favorite "blue" koi......Funny JR would ask about this issue...He's the (koi) guy that instilled the love of a good asagi in me in the first place!

Question

JR/Dick

Can you enlighten me on the "Asagi" Koikichi. As a fresh meat "newbie", I can appreciate the work involved in cross breeding colored koi, but I guess after reading and then re-reading Issue #8, I too will develop a new appreciation for Asagi. With all the attention being placed on gosanke, is it hard to find great Asagi. Can they get pricey?

Aloha!

A first class anything ( asagi-kawarimono etc) can command prices as expensive as better gosanke.
I have a hard time finding asagi I like because they either have too much red or not enough for my tastes. Hosokai breeds a silver lined blue scale that is 1% of his spawn. It takes three years for the white head, net pattern and red to develop sufficiently to make an educated quess as to the value of the asagi. By that time other breeds could have sold that koi 3 times over, hence the price of a good one is up there. Also the fact that fewer people breed them helps as well
as the market is not flooded.
they are wild, powerful koi, fearsome to net and handle, yet vulnerable to popping a scale and running an entire pattern. ( when the asagi han grows back in it's a different color and sticks out like a sore thumb. ) you really have to love these koi to be devoted to them.
the old expression of the hobby starting and ending with kohaku does not apply to me. It started with Matsukawabake, and is ending with asagi...darn howley! Shows you what I know! (LOL)

I love the different cultures that contribute to our board. My times when I impishly want to react to something and use a common expression, I have to rethink in case it's not clear.

Do you know the expression

"Bites the hand that feeds them"?

Anyway, I had to laugh at our situation. We love our KB so much that we can't wait to get another copy into our hands so we wear poor Brian out trying to keep up with his job, his family, his business.

I can sympathise with both sides.

I think Miss piggy had it right when she said " More is not enough!"! (LOL)

Hang in there Jaco!

Hi Dick,

I guess you are right, but Brian is delivering a great service for which we are PAYING so that gives us the right to ask.
I don't care if it is only due next year but I have to know.
Just a simple question that can be answered, should take 30 seconds.
This is not aimed at Brian himself or his personel life, just the magazine.

Jaco.
