SMG: Welcome to Orlando!! This will be a great treat to see the famous Minnow in person. Based on what I've been hearing, the show is going to be better than ever. Some truly nice koi are scheduled to be shown. Now we have to encourage Asagi in Florida in March .. just so you get a bit of competition!

Tony Prew!

What a nice surprise to see Tony's post. I met Tony many years ago in oregon at the forestry center for their early koi shows of Northwest Koi clubs. Even back then he had a great relationship with the Konishi Brothers!

I'll look forward to seeing any pics you can find. also if you know any way that I could email their english speaking MGR to ask specific questions.

I remember the Asagi Mark George used to get in from Mr Konishi. There's an old asagi male still living not to far from me that was purchased by a Boeing Engineer in Kent that went on a trip to japan and brought it home from mr konishi as a tosai.

Yes Dick, I now recall what Savannah did last year. Very generous of her. Thanks for the reminder in this Thanksgiving season.

How about a couple of pix of my Little Asagi? (That's its name too. Not very creative, eh? Had a bigger one that I grew from tosai but this little guy (also grown from tosai) looked too good and made the big one look bad so I auctioned off the big one).

Putting together this photo history I'm surprised at how the beni has stayed in the same place while the sumi has thickened up.

What do you think, Dick?

11/2004 pic, I like Thank you Jason, nice timeline. I've never seen young asagi here that looked even similar the first photo.... interesting. I like the beni rap.

So much to learn,... Terri

Very lovely Asagi, Jason. See why we should pick the pale babies? it took me years to learn that, like an idiot.

Here is a silly fun thing. Any Asagi lover who has any pumpkin pie left should take some with whipped cream out to the pond and look at their Asagi while eating it. The reticulation! The spiceyness! It is almost too much to stand!

Yes, bring out the Florida Asagis. Koi from Florida have such nice bodies, too.

Nah, SMG. I think we'll have to encourage someone to import Asagi from Virginia or New Jersey if Minnow is going to avoid boredom.

Jason,
I'm glad you remember what she did. For those of you who were not aware,
as best my memory serves me there was a gentleman who went to japan and bought the koi of their dreams and brought it home. They learned of a youngster that was ill and needed help financially so he auctioned off this very special koi with the intent to give the money to help. ( glad i can't be seen, as feelings are beginning to show as i retell what happened!)
Anyway savannah bid the highest price, sent the money in to help the child and thern donated the koi back to his original owner!
Thanks for including your photo series. It does show that asagi's as tosai
don't look like much. watching them progress to three when the asagi han comes into it's full is what is fun. Then the chore begins to keep them looking good! tain't easy! I think you have a pretty nice koi there jason!

I like the pale asagi more. I understand those are less popular too -- but a light blue soragoi with reticulation is really pretty to my eyes. The han is just icing on the multi-layer cake.

Turns out this asagi was a gift as well. The parallels continue? The dealer gifted the original owner with this tosai asagi when the original owner bought a sansai Gin Matsuba. The little guy was very shy about competing for food with the larger fish in that pond so after one thing and another it was gifted to me.

Dick:

Thanks for starting this thread, between the posts, Jason’s pictures and the upcoming Koi Bito, I’m starting to learn and appreciate this koi family more… Only one problem, am about to complete our second pond and all it’s space it already taken up by some southern belles coming in from Monroe SC later this month…

If I start another pond, "I" may have to look for another home… Can I and my asagi come live with you???

Aloha! Mike

Mike ,
you are welcome here anytime! with or without your asagi's!

Hold the line partner and don't give in to more koi than you should have.
Get your southern girls up and established for a year or two. There is always time and always another koi!

We'll be anxious to see pics of the ladies when they arrive. Will you give them hawaiian names?
