Your Quote: ":There is always time and always another koi!"

From your lips to God's ears... Last December, I finished what was supposed to be my last project... It was going to be Surf, surf, and more surf... Then I fell for the girls and once again its December and I'm finishing a second pond...

Re: Giving the southern belles Hawaiian Names... Don't think so, so far all of our koi except for Brady's Yama, all came from Japan and all are named after famous Japanese women of the Oda, Toyotomi and Tokugawa periods... Brady's Yamabuki is named KinChan because of 24k gold color...

Somehow Lokelani, Mapuana or Kalei just doesn't sound right... Oh yeah, stupid me, I just remembered I asked Brady for nisai males, sooooo, we'll probably name them after the aforementioned gals husbands or significant others... Our Female Kohaku is Matsu, so I guess Brady's male will be Toshiro, Our sanke is Ohtsu so the male showa will be Mushashi, etc....after all Brady's koi are AJA, Americans of Japanese Ancestry, (remember that term from you were here?), so they should have Japanese names...

Once again thanks for this thread... Aloha! Mike

So it looks like your second generation males will have japanese names! I think the showa male "will come full circle" with his name!

I have always given my koi japanese names. My favorite asagi is kimiko, her neice is mariko. I have one more I just acquired that i have to name but haven't come up with anything.

We have a Japanese programming TV station here (KIKU) which airs year long series called Taiga Dramas which cover all the important periods and individuals who played a major part in them during Japan's history...

Series have covered periods from the Kamakura Shogunate to this year's program called Shinsengumi, covering the period leading up to the Meiji restoration...

We pick our names from the heroines and heroes of these periods...

So we kinda cheat a little...

Your Japanese must be pretty good. I have never heard a work of English spoken on that station.

How about Yoshiko, for Yoshiko Iwamoto Wada, a well known Japanese Textile Artist and Author of a number of books on the subject... One of her specialities is Shibori, the art of Indigo and white dyeing... Might be fitting for an Asagi, especially since some Shibori fabrics have red accents... Or you could choose Mihoko, one of Yoshiko's beloved neices...

I'm just crazy about the name Yoshiko. drunken with the intoxication of naming your child to a higher standard! for a blue koi that's perfect!
