I suspect some gentlemen prefer ponds with blondes.

Truly KOIKICHI

Ian & Terri,
WOW! Now thats what I call KOIKICHI. Absolutely great fun. Makes me wish I had some of my own subjects to photograph. Are you using a macro lens for photography? Have you been shooting these type of shots for a long time? The finish on your photos are very professional. Thanks so much for sharing.

I prefer my pond with a pina colada and a side order of Redhead to knock off the chill

Doug, you are such a FLIRT! LOL

Akai-San, thank you. Ian takes his pics using macro, yes. I can't remember a time Ian wasn't taking photo's ... but of the koi, just over 10 years, and not always ours. If there will be koi around where we're going he brings his camera LOL We both started playing with camera's years ago, I can (and do) take some nice photographs(mostly nature shots) but Ian really has an eye for taking fish pics.

Here's a creepy crawly, one of my fav creatures

Kind Regards, Terri

I can't believe what I'm seeing...

Are you serious? You guys like eight legged creatures? I thought I was bad with my mess of wiggly creatures (praying mantis & Jackson Chameleons)LOL. Sorry I look at eight legged creatures a little differently (Chameleon Food). Thank goodness we don't have those in Hawaii. At least I don't think we do??? Great pics, makes me want to go outside a shutter a few myself... Anytime Ian wants to share more artistic photos, you can count on me to be giving them a looooooong look see. Aloha.

Akai,

Supposedly we have three different types:
brown widow spider - Latrodectus geometricus,
western black widow spider - L. hesperus, and
southern black widow spider - L. mactans.

Then there is Loxosceles rufescens, the Mediterranean recluse or violin spider which sends more people to the hospital than the widows.

I have never seen any of these and have this theory that if you live in peace with those 4-inch cane spiders (we have at least one in every room plus one in the truck) they will out-compete and/or eat the more poisonous species (http://www.instanthawaii.com/cgi-bin...i?Animals.cane).

If you want a hoot, check out the happy face spider (http://biology.swau.edu/faculty/petr...cards/spiders/)

Arachnophobia

Are you a optomologist? Speaking of cane spiders, I hear you...one in every room and under every box. When we moved back to Kaneohe a year ago (we reno our home) and they were everywhere. Now however, I think those brown and grey anole lizards are taking over or have ate all the cane spiders around our place.

Speaking of which...Are there any serious problems with gecko doots in the pond or koi eating geckos that fall into the pond? I only ask because the area adjacent to where I am planning to locate my pond is crawling with geckos. And if I plan on extending a trellis extension from my roof, I'm sure the geckos will stake thier claim as fast as I can build the thing. As fast as I can catch a bunch and relocate them (down the road/neighbors) more show up within a week or two...they must be territories staked at our house by those nasty geckos. Good for bug control, but not for cleaning windows and sills.

Hey Mike, noticed your little farm animal avatar. Any story there? I'm guessing you live in farm land area? Or thats your pet piggy? Or how about dinner for Sunday night? Hahaha...just kidden...

To break the boredom, I told my kids they would get a dime for every earthworm they dug and fed to the koi. An hour or so later they reported back that koi will also eat small geckos, roaches and centipeds, but not mice. I had to go check on the fish after hearing about the centiped, but all seemed OK.
