Pickal, the calculator calculates the the amount of water forced through the pipe by the water pressure behind it. It does not calculate flow from a pump by how deep the pipe is in the water.
Your post above does not show an understanding of that?
The difference in water heights between the two containers would be the depth. For instance if you are able to make the pump raise the water in your pond three inches higher than in your filter And the RETURN PIPE is 6' in diameter then the pump is moving about 20,000gph (and it does NOT matter how seep thepipe is just as long as it is completely submerged.)
AT LEAST THAT is how I have my noggin wrapped around how to use this calculator.
For instance, if when i get around to playing with Props and electricity I can get a two inch rise in my pond over my very low drag filter bay and the return from the pond to the filter bay is a six inch pipe and a 1.3 amp Ice eater, I will be Stoked....1.5 inches is my goal.
