ha! Just teasing you a little Scott-- ( But getting rid of that stupid picture was a helpful suggestion! )

No harm, vitamin C is probably the rational. I use orange juice myself when mixing Izeki paste foods.
As far as koi liking fruit-- they like anything they can taste! Koi can taste sweet, sour and bitter. They also can become easily conditioned to food types.
The unique thing about koi, a sign of intelligence I think, is the fact that if koi have a favorite pellet type/brand, and you mix several other pellets with it, all the koi will eat slower as they attempt to find ( taste and smell) the pellet type they like the most.
This trick can be used to help less aggressive individuals get some food from the vacuum cleaner type feeders.
Best, JR

PS get rid of that stupid picture, halloween is over and you're 37 years old for heaven's sake! LOL

JR: I've noticed the koi seeking specific pellets, but wasn't sure if it was my imagination. No time for making up foods, so I only feed pellets (and occasional treats). As seasons change, the pellet mix changes. New types are added. Began last month adding Nozomi wheatgerm (floating) to the pellet mix. Some of the koi preferred it immediately. Others preferred a different floating pellet. Others preferred the sinking pellet in the mix and headed to the bottom. Over a couple of weeks wheatgerm based pellets will become dominant, with all the fish adjusted to them. Gotta get ready for winter, you know. Cold spell this past week took pond temp all the way down to 68F on Saturday morning at 8am. Brrrrrrrr!

In the wild, feral chagois hang around under mulberry trees. They love mulberries.

All dominant male primates have those tummies. Well developed facial hair on a male shows he not a juvenile and is likely a sure breeder.

Hey Melissa! Long time no see! How's my favorite redhead?

JR, you missed your calling. You should have become a policeman!

Mike,
Is it me of are my koi the only ones that prefer sinking feed to floating. Koi are by nature bottom feeders and I have often seen fish that are to shy to come to the top, gourge themselves on sinking feed. I find that after a period of feeding sinking feed, it takes a whie for them to get use to floating feed again. If you reverse the situation they will take sinking feed in an instant even after a long period of eating pellets.
