I'll bet it was Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; the southern-most Canadian province. I found a little three-foot alligator in my koi pond when I lived in SC.

The gator was on a golf course at Hilton Head but we started to see lots of them around. I will likely see quite a few next month in the everglades. Some were 6 or 7 ft long. Lots of herons of every shape and size it would be a tough place to keep koi alive in a pond and racoons.

Cool Koi Power

Hi,
This may be a late respond but I am impressed with the koi food you mentioned. Here in sunny RSA we are not privileged as in other parts of the world to get quality food. Is it perhaps possible to give me a contact address where I could contact to import
Thanks

swordfish, what kind of sweet potatoes do you use? is it that brownish red coloured potatoes? And the tofu you use, is it cooked? if so, doesnt it cloud the water since it's so soft.

Lastly, about the shrimp you give; freshwater or saltwater? cooked right?

Hi CK welcome to the board.Brown skin white fresh sweet potatoes is fine. I'm using a red skin yellow fresh sweet potatoes from Japan that my nearby mimimart is selling. I share them with my koi. Sometimes I use pumpkin it is the same.
Tofu is already a cooked food. Not neccessary to cook them again. Though it is soft but it does not cloud my water. My total pond water turn over is 3X per hr & well circulated. Any waste is quickly pick up by my bio-filter or bakki shower.
I use sea water Tiger prawns(local name) or any freshly arrived prawns. Throw away the prawn's heads & boiled them to kill off any bacteria from the ocean.

I use Sweet Potatos too. I make a dumpling of these ingredients: sweet potato(Japanese), powdered refresh, propolis, honey, garlic powder, Manda Nishiki, panko, taro starch, powdered milk high in vitamin D, egg white, one multi-vitamin and last but not least a bit of Super Clean C. I feed this twice a week to my koi and it seems to really clean up the shiroji. Also, I find that it really bulks up the koi without giving them the potbelly.

Thumbs up

Thanks Sword Fish. I should contact you next time i'll be in singapore.

Aquitori, it's interesting that you add super clean c in your feed. I have heard of a friend who did this because his koi weren't fit. it did wonders for him. Can you elaborate on the reasons why you add this?

FYI, I'm a big fan and a current user of izeki's paste food.
