showa for comments

may i have frank comments on this showa i bought a month or so ago? sansai (2.5y.o), close to 65cm.

What happened to the pec's? Looks like they've had a heavy trim!

andrew said it for me when we were in japan this year we saw a lot of koi with deformed fins we were told it was because the high growth rates.

yes this is correct I belive it is because there is no true bloodline head and spine deformaties are common.

Pecs aside, I think it's a lovely koi. The white on it is really nice! Well worth
enjoying in one's pond to watch what else it may do. Remember many showas don't really finish (depending on the sex) till they are 8 years old!

Agreed, but this showa looks very close to being finished for a 2.5 yrs old(at least from the picture).

Well since this isn't my thread, I just wanted to ask everyone how they thought this fish would do at a show?

Soelistyo: The Sumi appears very nice and in an interesting pattern. Looking closely, the deep red growth lines are visible in each scale of the Hi. I'm guessing the red is not so red as the photo indicates, and will be intensifying as she matures. The white is nicely clean. Body shape looks good. I'd prefer more delineation of the Hi plates, with a bit more Shiro. Hope the pecs grow out without deformity. If so, she could be a bold one in a few years.

thank you for all the comments. it took me more than a year and 3 aborted occasions before i finally decided to buy this koi, from when i first saw it as a skinny tosai till now (during which time the asking price had tripled), so it feels like i've owned the fish for a long time already. Another dealer (Sakai's) also told me it's worth the price even though it wasn't his fish, the only thing he was concerned about was - as Bancherd commented - it seemed pretty finished for its age. But i'd waited long enough and i kinda like fishes that had a story with me, plus the fish has a massive presence in real life, so i wasn't to be denied the fourth time asking. i have another 2.5years old kohaku from the same breeder. i'll post a picture of that one too later.The showa is still at the dealers living in relative luxury in a 300+T pond with only 30 other fishes, while i've brought the kohaku home to my much more modest pond not too long ago.
