thank you for all the comments. it took me more than a year and 3 aborted occasions before i finally decided to buy this koi, from when i first saw it as a skinny tosai till now (during which time the asking price had tripled), so it feels like i've owned the fish for a long time already. Another dealer (Sakai's) also told me it's worth the price even though it wasn't his fish, the only thing he was concerned about was - as Bancherd commented - it seemed pretty finished for its age. But i'd waited long enough and i kinda like fishes that had a story with me, plus the fish has a massive presence in real life, so i wasn't to be denied the fourth time asking. i have another 2.5years old kohaku from the same breeder. i'll post a picture of that one too later.The showa is still at the dealers living in relative luxury in a 300+T pond with only 30 other fishes, while i've brought the kohaku home to my much more modest pond not too long ago.
