Spirulina is a form of algae that has color enhancing properties. It is often added to koi food. Breeders frown on giving this to tatagoi but will feed it to tatashita in order to make them more attractive for market. An excess will cause the shiro in fish to go orange in color and it can affect the development of hi in later years if fed to very young fish.

Personally I don't use it at all. I would avoid giving it to fish in the first two years of life.

I would let the tosai grow naturally for the first 2 years...I guess it depends in what direction you want to go in this hobby. If you are goin to just have a water graden pond and want your koi to look nice then I suggest that type of food.

What food do you have availible in your country? Hikari Wheatgrem is best and you can get it anywhere.
